Hi, I’m Jay.

I’m an empty nester & certified personal and executive coach who works with empty nesters and mid-lifers who feel stuck in life, are unsure of their purpose now that the kids are grown, and who are struggling to answer the questions, “What now?” and “What’s next in life?”

I’m a big believer in how our thoughts and feelings about ourselves and our lives is what moves us forward or holds us back.

MY STORY

COACHING PROFESSIONAL

In September of 2020 I was struggling to answer the question, “what’s next for me?”

We were moving in July 2021 for my wife’s job, our kids were getting ready to launch, I knew I didn’t want to continue being the tech guy in education, and I was totally lost.

I needed to find my purpose AND I just wanted to feel better about the future — my future and our family’s future.

In November of 2020, I found a coaching program I loved.

In January of 2021 I hired my first coach who was a teacher in that program.

I quickly realized coaching people in the same stage of life as me and with the same questions I had was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I consider it an absolute privilege to be a part of my clients’ lives. For me, each one of their stories are unique and special.

I treat each person who works with me as some who is capable, resilient and whole just as they are right in this moment.

I also do not take lightly that in order for people to move forward they must share their private thoughts and emotions as they unpack why they’re stuck while also sharing their hopes and dreams for the future.

When my clients improve their lives, the lives of everyone around them improves as well.

That’s the secret sauce of my coaching.

  • To be honest, getting lost didn’t happen overnight – nope, it was a slow process and one I didn’t see coming until I was, well, lost.

My wife and I are both educators – she was a teacher, then an assistant principal, and now a principal – and I was involved in technology. Her role was classroom facing, parent facing, and full of after school meetings. My role allowed me to work from anywhere and be the primary caregiver at home.

I was primarily responsible for the grocery shopping, laundry, shuttling kids here and there, making meals, and ensuring that homework was done. And because of my obsessive compulsiveness, I was the one who made sure the house was squared away, made sure everyone’s calendars were synched, and planned all of the family’s travels – they called me Mr. Logistics.

I THRIVED on being the go-to guy for our family. And to be honest my entire identity was wrapped up in helping others – at work as the tech guy and at home as the helpful husband and father.

It was all I knew until it wasn’t.

Fast forward to September 2020 smack in the middle of the pandemic. My son is in his senior year of college, my daughter in her junior year and my wife lands an amazing new job which requires us to move to a new state — but not until July 2021.

Here’s where my rediscovery begins. I had 9 months to ponder what would come next for me because I knew staying in educational technology wasn’t what I wanted to do anymore. And, the kids were, for the most part, out of the nest – at least part of the time.

I started to ask questions like….

    Who am I?

    What would I do?

    Who would I help?

    How would I contribute?

If I am being honest, September 2020 to November 2020 was rough. Probably three of the toughest months of my life. I started to binge eat and drink and spent my free-time wallowing in my own self-doubt. Yes, I was throwing myself a HUGE pity party and I was depressed.

Then, in November 2020 I found the Coaching & Positive Psychology Institute — I had discovered my purpose.

I knew helping people figure out what they want, why they want it and to teach them how to get out of their own way so they can get it was my life’s calling.

Between December 2020 and summer 2022 I continued to rediscover myself.

My son graduated college in May 2021 and my daughter in May 2022. And in the span of one month in April 2022 we moved them both into adult apartments, purchased furniture, and kitchen stuff, and then they were done – gone from the nest.

I learned that when the kids are grown and gone from the home that I still support them, just in different ways.

I learned that life isn’t ending, it is only beginning.

I rekindled my love affair with my wife.

I found other ways to spend my time.

    I invested in myself.

    I learned.

    I grew.

    I explored.

    I took trips.

I lived my best life – and still am.

    And so can you!

The secret to life? It’s knowing every step we take forward is about progress, not perfection — that our steps should be intentional and have purpose. That’s how we move forward in life.

WORKING WITH ME

WHY CHOOSE ME

As a certified personal and executive coach, I help people working through life’s most challenging transitions — in both their personal and professional lives.

On the other end?

They’re now loving their lives.

Right now, you might see a mountain you don’t think you can climb.

I don’t see the mountain, I see a walk where you’ll just put one foot in front of the other.

The first step is understanding how your thoughts and feelings impact your life — its a big part of being successful in navigating the challenges you’re facing right now.

Once you master this concept, I guarantee you’ll start to see your life improve.

The next step in my process is to lead you through several sessions of self-discovery allowing you the space, without judgement, to explore who you want to be in this next chapter of your life.

Finally, I’ll teach you how to create a strategic life plan — all this means is creating a plan and putting it into action so you can go after the life you most want now that you know who are and what you want.

At it’s core, the work I do is focused on helping people answer the questions “what now?” and “what’s next?”

It’s pure magic to be a witness to my clients’ journeys — and I can do the same thing for you.
